If you’ve tried driving towards the sun, you’ll understand how challenging it is to see. It is very uncomfortable and it is also a safety hazard. Today, we’ll give you a few useful tips for driving under bright sunlight.

Get A Pair Of Cool Sunglasses

Sunglasses don’t only make you look cool, they are also functional too. Even if you think your sunglasses don’t look cool enough, it is still worth wearing them while driving under the sun. They will help dim the light and also protect your eyes from the UV rays. Make sure you keep a pair of them in your vehicle at all times.

Use Your Visor

A sun visor is an accessory that typically comes with most cars, if not all of them. It can be positioned to help block the sun then it could be lifted out of the way when it’s not needed anymore. Sometimes, it can even swivel to the window side, which is quite useful if the bright sun is towards your side.

Window Tinting

Tint on the windows help give you privacy but it is also a great tool for blocking out the sun. Window tints are thin films placed over the window to make them look darker. Just make sure that you follow the regulations when it comes to how dark the tints are. Different states have varying regulations about it.

Avoid Driving During Sunset Or Sunrise

You may think that the sun is brightest at lunchtime, but it actually is more blinding when it is already near the horizon and about to rise or set. Whenever you can, avoid driving at those hours. It will only take a few minutes for that crucial time so just wait it out.

Distance Yourself

If you have no choice but to drive at those times, you could drive more defensively by keeping your distance from the other vehicles on the street. That lessens the risk of crashing into them because of visual impairment due to the bright sunlight.

Sun glare is just one of the causes of a car accident and you may never know when that could happen. In case it does happen to you, make sure you have Once Click Towing Company’s contact number so they can come to your aid for <a

In this post, we’ve compiled some tips on how you can safely drive through various bad weather conditions.

Icy Or Snowy Roads

Tip #1: Slow Down

Snowy and icy roads are known to be slippery even if you have the right tires for that season. The best thing to do here is to slow down your speed. Cut back about 10 miles per hour the speed limit. If you still feel like it is difficult to control your vehicle, you can slow down even more to gain more control over your car on icy roads.

Black ice is another thing to watch out for. This can be difficult to spot so the only way to work around them is to slow down. Some claim that you can see them when the headlights reflect of the road at night but it is still difficult to tell.

Tip #2: Don’t Tailgate

Between you and the car in front of you, you should make sure that there is more than enough space so that when the car in front brakes suddenly, you won’t crash into them. Some recommend having about 100 years of space between the vehicles.

Tip #3: Be Careful When Turning And Braking

Combining turning and the brakes can be quite dangerous on snowy roads. This is because it is possible for the car to spin and be out of control. If you are going for a turn, have a light foot on the brakes and feather it before you turn.

In case something goes wrong and your car starts to skid while you turn, it is best to remain calm. Remove your foot from both the brake and gas pedal. Check which direction your car is skidding and steer the car into that direction. The skid is going to be canceled when you do this and the car is likely to correct itself and go straight.

Foggy Weather Condition

Tip #1: Use Your Fog Lights

Fog lights help you see better when there is thick fog because the lights are yellow in color. These are better than the white lamps that your car uses for the headlights. The yellow color makes the ground more visible.

Tip #2: Use Your Brakes

You should use your brakes just before you enter the area with the fog. This can help warn the car behind you to slow down too. If you don’t do this and just start to slow down when you’re in the thick parts of the fog, you can accidentally get hit from behind.

Rainy Weather

Tip#1: Slow Down

During rainy weather, it is also advisable to slow down as there is a risk of hydroplaning. This happens when your car is lifted off the ground because you’re driving on a layer of water. It can feel like your car is out of control but when this happens, you shouldn’t panic. Slowing down will help you get out of hydroplaning.

Tip#2: Avoid Flooded Areas

When it is raining, flooded areas can develop. It is still difficult to gauge how deep the flooded areas are. You aren’t sure if your car can go through it or not. Don’t blindly drive through flooded areas because when your air-intake valve sucks water, the engine will die and the car won’t work. You’ll be stuck in the middle of the flooded area. Additionally, if the water current is too strong, it might push your car to crash onto others.

Preparing The Car For Bad Weather

The weather is unpredictable and can suddenly change. However, in some cases, you’ll know in advance if there is going to be bad weather. If you anticipate weather challenges by the time you’re driving the car, you better prepare for it. Here are a few things to do:

Check Your Windshield Wipers

Your windshield wipers will help with visibility, which you need most during various bad weather conditions. If there are any cracks in the rubber, then you should replace them. For those who are in areas where snow is abundant, winter blades will be a good investment.

Make Sure Your Headlight Covers Are Clean

Your headlights can eventually turn cloudy or yellowish in color. This can prevent light from passing through and can negatively affect your night driving. To remedy this, you can get a kit that helps restore the clarity of your headlight covers.

Check Your Tires

You should always check your tires before you drive your car, especially in various weather conditions. A way to check the grooves of your tires is to try to insert a coin. There you will see the depth of the threads. This simple test can help you determine if the tires are too worn out and are in need of replacement.

Additionally, for those who experience the winter season, it would be a good idea to have winter tires. These provide better traction on slippery roads. They are softer and more pliable that is why they aren’t as slippery as regular tires.

Have An Emergency Kit

It is always best to be prepared so make sure you have an emergency kit in your car. Even if you aren’t driving through bad weather conditions, the emergency kit can help you in case you need it. There should be items like flares, flashlight, jumper cables, duct tape, ice scraper, tow rope, and others. Food and water are also great additions to your kit.
<hr

It may cause you not to think clearly and be unsure about what to do. Knowing what to do helps you calm down a bit so that you won’t make haste decisions that you can regret later on. Even if you are a very careful driver, we can’t say that for everyone who owns and drives a vehicle.

Whether you are injured or not because of the accident, it can still be a frustrating situation. Knowing which to prioritize and immediately do can lessen the frustration because you know that you’ve done what you have to do at that moment.

With that in mind, here are the step we recommend any crash victim should take immediately after a car accident…

Check For Injuries And Assess The Situation

The first thing to check when you’ve just been through a car accident is you and your passenger’s health. Assess whether you or your passengers are hurt. After that, don’t forget to assess the situation too. Do you smell smoke? Is there any additional threat to stay in the vehicle?

Get Out Of Traffic And Make The Calls

If you find that everyone is okay and can move out of the car, it would be best to get out of traffic. However, before you leave the vehicle, turn your hazard lights on so that the other drivers can still see your car and not cause more accidents. Walk over to the sidewalk or the side of the road and call for emergency medical services. Also, call the police even if it is a minor crash. There are states that will require drivers to report any accident on the road.

Another call should be made to your insurance company to inform them about the accident. This helps start the claims process right away. You should also call your trusted towing company or else the police would call a towing company for you to get the car out of the way. If you don’t specify a towing company to work with and a shop to take your car, then you can end up paying a lot because of transferring your car from one area to another.

Collect Important Information

Ask the other party involved information such as the driver’s name, address, contact number, the insurance company they work with, their policy number, and take note of their plate number. You should also provide them with such information. It is also best to note names and contact info of witnesses.

Keep Your Cool

Don’t play the blame game. It’s understandable that emotions are high but try to calm down. Let your insurance companies and attorneys figure out who is liable. They can sort things out. The important thing that you should do here is to be able to exchange information and that would be easier if you keep your cool.

Take Photos

Take photos of your car from different angles and photos of the other car as well. You can take pictures focusing on the damage as well as the crash scene. Skid marks and road hazards should also be photographed because they provide evidence of what happened.

Get Your Car Ready For Towing

If all documentation is gathered and everyone is set, your car can now be towed. Make sure that you remove your valuables in the car or anything important that you need. It can take several days before you can get to your car again so make sure you don’t leave anything valuable in it.
<hr

It becomes routine, automatic. But there’s one rule that many forget or fail to follow. Following that rule could prevent a tragedy from taking place.

Dave Duchnik and his son David ran a towing business together in Scott Township. David was 29 years old when he was hit and killed by a tractor-trailer while responding to a crash with his dad on Interstate 81 in Lackawanna County. That crash happened almost exactly three years ago.

So when Dave got a call Monday night for a car that had broken down on I-81 near Harford, something told him not to go.

“I just had this eerie feeling, that you know what, I’m going to pass on this one. I don’t know why. I don’t know if it was my son telling me from up above,” Duchnik said.

The tow truck that did answer the call from Val-U Auto out of Owego, New York got hit by a tractor-trailer.

The tow truck was totaled, but the driver is OK. The tractor-trailer also hit a Jeep. The driver of the Jeep was taken to the hospital.

Imagine seeing a 40-ton vehicle going 60 miles an hour, barreling toward you when you’re standing on the side of the highway, just doing your job. That’s what tow truck drivers we spoke to say they want you to think about the next time you’re on the highway and you see emergency vehicles pulled over.

“It shakes you. A car goes by, a tractor-trailer, you stand there next to a tractor-trailer going by you on the interstate and see what it really sounds like,” said Ed Kozlowski.

Kozlowski owns the towing company in Clifford that hauled away the tractor-trailer and the Jeep.

“A few years ago, I was hit the same way out there with a wrecker. The wrecker was totaled. I got thrown into the median,” he recalled.

Duchnik says what happened overnight is just another reminder of why he works to raise awareness about Pennsylvania’s “Move Over” law.

The law requires drivers to move over at least one lane when they see an emergency vehicle or a broken-down vehicle on the side of the road. If they can’t move over, they have to slow down.

Duchnik pays for billboards warning drivers. The sign says “Slow down. Move over. It’s the law.”

“Our mission is not to have this happen to another family like it ruined ours. Our lives are ruined for life,” said Duchnik.

The driver has been cited.

If you’d like to help Dave Duchnik raise awareness about the Move Over law, you can come out to the David Duchnik Memorial Golf Tournament taking place this Saturday at Sleepy Hollow in Greenfield Township.

<post-id
